High Jump World Champion Inaugurates Exhibition

The World Water Week is one of the main annual conferences in the fields of water and sanitation. Delegates from a wide range of backgrounds, ranging from science, business and policy to civic society, gather in the Swedish capital every year to exchange the latest insights.
In 2008 sanitation was in the spotlight as part of “Water Week”. During the week, the conference organisers contributed to the International Year of Sanitation by bringing the “Where Would You Hide?” exhibition to Stockholm and raising awareness of the benefits of safe toilets and excreta treatment amongst the Swedish public.
2005 High Jump World Champion, Kajsa Bergqvist, inaugurated the exhibition at Normalmstorg, a busy square in the heart of the city. She passionately conveyed the subject to the national and international media, while passer-bys stopped to view the bright orange figures, information boards and flyers.
Visitors of the exhibition were able to participate in a guided tour about “the sanitation history of Stockholm” to inspire them to think about the consequences their ancestors faced before sanitation systems were installed and about the improvements sanitation could bring to those societies that still live without adequate access.
Love how you take creative approaches the topic. It’s a serious matter, but the HIV awareness movement required similar steps to break the taboo on sex. Keep it up!
